Got about 5 boxes of this stuff: 2 from Amazon, and the rest from the local Home Depot as they are cheaper. (sometimes it pays to check local store before, not after Amazon...)
Got them in the ground close to the roots of my 60 Green Giant Arborvitae this spring. They grew very well the whole summer (and we had a drought and we didn't really water them). Also, the grass around the spikes got so denser and greener, I am thinking about grinding this stuff and spread it in my whole yard :)
Ah, don't follow the instructions to get it in the ground: the spike will crack or brake if you hammer it directly (they include a plastic thingamagic but it is pretty useless). Instead use a 1x2 wooden spike, or a pry bar, hammer one of these and then insert the fertilizer spike in the hole. I drew a line on the 1x2 to give me the proper depth, and hammered it in. 60 of these puppies went in without a hitch (other than having to change the wooden spike a couple of times - hey...
